Today, I went to a Script Frenzy write-in up in London. For those of you that don’t know, Script Frenzy is the sister event of NaNoWriMo, or National Novel Writing Month. (Script Frenzy is also known as Screnzy). The aim is to write a 100-page script in the month of April. Apart from the fact it’s a script, not a novel, and it’s pages, not words, the main difference is that you’re allowed to write with a partner!

For the last couple of weeks I’ve been working on adapting MORT by Terry Pratchett as a musical. It’s been done before, but not by a couple of students. Therefore, we are cool.

Today I went to a write-in. During NaNoWriMo, these Sunday Costa Coffee Waterstone’s write-ins had around 50 people! Well, one of them did, anyway. This one had … uh, three. Well, four, but only three at any given moment. It was fun anyway. We played consequences and I worked on my novel. Yeah, I got a bit distracted. I still wrote, what, 15 pages or something anyway? So it doesn’t really matter. It was good fun :)

It also involved me going to London, and this is what I saw … (no photos, I’m afraid, my phone ran out of battery and I didn’t have a camera!):

(1) Occupation (Trafalgar Square)
(2) Buskers.
(4) Vegans holding protest signs (although I think there were more of them nearby.)
(6) Men pretending to be statues, at various points during the day (I love these guys! )
(lots of) Tourists taking photos.
(LOTS of) Marathon runners, some of them looking suspiciously cheerful for people who have just run 26 miles! I mean, I can run a quarter of a mile before I collapse…so yeah. Too cheerful. They should be dead by now. Charing Cross Station was full of them. So many different charities, as well! It’s incredible. I saw Macmillan Cancer Support, British Heart Foundation, Alzheimer’s Research …

What did you see, the last time you went to a city? Do you think I should turn this into a song reminiscent of the twelve days of Christmas? And more importantly, have you ever been to a write-in, and if so, did it help? (Or did you just get distracted, like me?)

Please comment! I love comments. Comments are cool. :)

  1. I have never been to a write-in, even though I live near san francisco so there are probably lots of write-ins there, because I am lazy. thinking about going to one in February though… and if you do turn this into a song I’d love to hear it. :)
