Something Saturday: A Lot Of Rain and Branching Out

Something Saturday: A Lot Of Rain and Branching Out

First of all, it’s raining right now. Like, a lot. Like, if I was outside right now the white, extremely piratical shirt that I’m wearing would be see-through in about 0.5 of a second. it’s rain that’s going practically horizontal because of the wind and it looks horrible.

So glad I’m inside just watching it from my window :)

Secondly, I’ve been branching out a little and I’m forming a band. Though this is really a topic for my other blog, I thought I’d tell you too because it’s about writing as well – after all, I’m writing the songs and lyrics, aren’t I? So here’s a demo of my first song, and it’ll probably change but you might as well watch it anyway…

It’s sort of inspired by the Trock band, Chameleon Circuit, as their new album is so good (especially compared to the first one!) that I thought, hey, geeky songs … sounds fun, let’s have a go. So I owe it to them – go check out ‘Still Got Legs’! I especially like “The Sound Of Drums” and am choreographing to it.

Anyway, without further ado, here’s the video:

You can also read the lyrics on Protagonize, but because I love you just that much I’ve pasted them here. Yes, in the video I do get them wrong in the first verse, it should be “But he’s dying” and I say “And”. Whatever…

Gwen

If I’d known you wouldn’t run
That you would still stand there,
If I’d known you hadn’t left me,
But he’s dying and I’m scared.

I would have stayed, would have watched
The way you cared for her.
Instead I ran, gun in my hand,
Back towards what we were.

Now still I wait, my hands so cold,
The metal’s shining bright.
If they come I’m thinking of you,
I’ll die facing the light.

I would have stayed, would have watched
The way you cared for her.
Instead I ran, gun in my hand,
Back towards what we were.

They know my name, know where I am,
I’ve got to leave you now.
But take my child and hold her close:
I wish I’d shown you how.

I would have stayed, would have watched
The way you cared for her.
Instead I ran, gun in my hand,
Back towards what we were.

I thought they’d leave you, let you go,
Since we’re the ones they need.
Hush, little one – don’t let her cry,
Or else they’ll make her bleed.

I would have stayed, would have watched
The way you cared for her.
Instead I ran, gun in my hand,
Back towards what we were.

Now the man we thought was safe,
The one who couldn’t die.
Seems he’s the one who has to fear,
Falling from the sky.

I would have stayed, would have watched
The way you cared for her.
Instead I ran, gun in my hand,
Back towards what we were.

I’m so sorry that I had to go,
I’m sure you understand.
The child’s my life, just hold her close,
We’ll try and make a stand!

I would have stayed, would have watched
The way you cared for her.
Instead I ran, gun in my hand,
Back towards what we were.

I should have stayed, should have watched
The way you cared for her.
Instead I ran, gun in my hand,
Back towards what we were.

[end]

The rain has almost stopped. That’s not very Torchwood. It always seems to be raining there. Probably because it’s Wales….

Also, check this out: awesome scene from the episode around which I based this song!

I might have to trade my mum in for a more hardcore model....

  1. Already commented on the video on YouTube. I really love the melody so I might try and cover it one day if that’s okay with you. I’ll let you know when that happens of course.
    :)

    1. That’s fine :) A new version will be up soon, though, when I’ve got some of the others together with it, and I’ll be putting the music up here, I hope! :D

What do you think? I'd love to hear your thoughts.
